For trades and businesses covering a wide radius
A service-led site that makes the work, coverage area, proof and enquiry route obvious without creating dozens of duplicate location pages.
Independent web studio · County Roscommon
Your customers may not all come from the same town.
I build clear, fast websites for Roscommon businesses that need to explain what they do, where they work and why somebody should choose them — whether the customer is around the corner, elsewhere in the county or planning a visit from further away.
One county, very different customer journeys
Roscommon is a good example of why a "local business website" cannot be designed around one generic idea of local.
A trades or rural-service business may cover a wide radius across the county and into neighbouring areas. A professional may draw clients from Roscommon Town, Castlerea, Boyle or the Monksland/Athlone side of the county. A hospitality or activity business may be trying to reach somebody who is searching from Dublin, Belfast or overseas before they ever arrive.
Those are different customer journeys.
The website has to explain the real one.
That means being clear about the areas you genuinely cover, making important information easy to find on a phone and giving visitors a reason to trust the business before they call, book or send a message.
It does not mean pretending to have an office in every Roscommon town.
For many local businesses, Facebook is the beginning — not the whole web presence
Facebook is extremely useful for local recommendations, community groups, photos, updates and word of mouth.
I would not tell a Roscommon business to abandon it if it is generating work.
The limitation is that a Facebook page is still a feed on somebody else's platform. It is not a particularly good place to organise a complete service list, explain a wide service area, answer buying questions or control what somebody sees first after Googling the business.
A website gives you a permanent destination for the best version of that information.
So a sensible local setup can be:
Facebook / Instagram for activity and community → Google for discovery → your website for clarity and conversion.
That is particularly useful for businesses that have already built a reputation socially but still have no strong owned web presence.

Roscommon businesses are not all selling to Roscommon residents
Roscommon County Council's current economic plan is focused on attracting and retaining employment and economic growth, while the county's tourism strategy is explicitly aiming to develop Roscommon as a year-round visitor destination.
The visitor side matters because the county has several different tourism clusters rather than one single centre.
Boyle and Lough Key combine heritage, outdoor activity, food and visitor experiences. The Shannon and Lough Ree side of the county supports boating, water activities and accommodation. Castlerea and the wider county have heritage, outdoor and rural attractions of their own.
For a tourism, hospitality, food or activity business, the website may be doing its most important work before the customer is anywhere near Roscommon.
That changes what good web design looks like:
For a local service business, the priorities may be completely different. That is why I build around the customer journey rather than forcing every business into the same page template.
Website types that make sense here
A service-led site that makes the work, coverage area, proof and enquiry route obvious without creating dozens of duplicate location pages.
A trust-led site built around expertise, services, FAQs and a straightforward call, enquiry or existing booking route.
A visual, mobile-first site that helps people understand the experience and then moves them cleanly into a booking system where one is needed.
A strong brand and product/service presentation, with ecommerce added only where selling online is genuinely part of the business model.
A focused first website that organises the strongest information from Facebook or Instagram into something the business owns and can build on.
Gavin’s take
A Roscommon business can serve a large geographic area without needing a separate SEO page for every village.
I would rather start with one strong site that clearly explains where the business works and why customers in those areas should use it.
If there is later a genuine reason for a dedicated page — a different service, a distinct customer need, meaningful search demand or enough local information to make the page useful — then build it properly.
What I would not do is create twenty pages where the only meaningful change is the town name.
That is poor for the visitor and it is exactly the kind of scaled local content search engines have become much better at identifying.
A smaller number of useful pages beats a larger number of empty ones.
Serving Roscommon without pretending to be everywhere
The content should reflect the business's actual footprint.
A county-wide service might reasonably refer to Roscommon Town, Boyle, Castlerea, Strokestown, Ballaghaderreen and the Monksland/Athlone area because those locations represent different parts of the market.
But they should appear where useful, not as a keyword list.
The same principle applies outside the county. If the business genuinely serves adjoining parts of Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath or Offaly, say so in the appropriate context. Do not manufacture extra offices or addresses.

How it works
Not just the business address. We map the towns, wider service radius, visitor market or referral channels that actually matter.
If Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, phone enquiries or an existing booking platform already works, the website can support it rather than replacing it for the sake of complexity.
I can work from existing posts, brochures, service lists, photos and rough notes, then shape the initial structure and copy.
You supply or correct the important personal material — experience, exact service limits, pricing where appropriate, policies, photos and proof.
The site is deployed with the agreed domain, analytics and core indexing/search setup, then it can be improved with real enquiry and Search Console data over time.
Questions that matter for a Roscommon website
Describe the genuine service area clearly and organise it around the services people are looking for. You do not need to pretend the business has a physical presence in every location. If a particular area later justifies its own useful page, that can be assessed from real search demand and business relevance.
Because it gives those enquiries somewhere better to validate the business. Customers can see services, selected work, FAQs, prices or scope where appropriate and the correct contact route without digging through old posts. It also gives the business an owned, indexable destination outside a social platform.
Where a good booking platform already exists, I would usually rather integrate or link it properly than charge you to build another booking engine from scratch. The website can concentrate on selling the experience, answering visitor questions and making the booking route obvious.
No. Existing Facebook posts, brochures, reviews, menus, service lists and a conversation about the business are often enough to create a strong first draft. I do not expect a small business owner to arrive with agency-ready website copy.
No responsible web designer can guarantee a particular organic ranking. I can build the technical and content foundations correctly, make the site relevant to the business's real services and locations, and ensure it works with wider local-search assets such as Google Business Profile, reviews and useful content.
A clear first step
If you serve a wide area, rely heavily on social media, need visitors to find you before they arrive or simply have an old site that no longer represents the business, tell me what is happening now.
I will help work out what the website needs to do — without turning it into a bigger project than necessary.
